I finally get it. . . when I upload pictures to www.flickr.com, I am "in the cloud." Translation: my hard drive can crash, but my pictures are stored elsewhere and I can rely on the website to store them.
So, this is a marker for Web 2.0, the name associated with the user-created capabilities of the Internet. Cloud computing means that I can create, edit, save, and upload to other websites off-site.
What does this mean for teachers? How can we support what teachers do on a daily basis?
1. Make websites available for them to use in the classroom that won't likely be banned.
2. Provide easy access for teachers to find out about cool projects, pictures, etc.
3. Initiate teachers into the world of cloud computing.
and more, I'm sure.
